A BIT ABOUT NICKY
Nicky Chovuchovu was born in 1975 in Harare Zimbabwe where he was inspired to take up painting by his father. He worked alongside his Father as a Commercial Art apprentice, which is the only formal art education he has received.
While learning from his father he joined OK Bazaars as a Commercial Artist where he did Silk Screen printing and Sign Writing. It was during this time that Nicky became fascinated by the Expressionist paintings and began reading everything he could find on the Fauvist Movement.
He bravely took the plunge and became a professional artist in 2001 and started to teach himself how to perfect his drawing skills and expressionistic painting.
As you can see from his pictures, He loves his paintings to tell a story about the bush as well as the social stories about the people and their lives.
Acrylics are his favourite medium, he believes paint is the light that colours life and he gives us plenty of both.
He has exhibited at:
- Pietermaritzberg Art In The Park 2006 & 2007
- Blue Caterpillar Gallery in Pietermaritzburg 2006
- Kwazulu Natal Society of Art Gallery 2006
- ART SPACE in Durban 2005
- African Art Centre in Durban 2004
and has his paintings in several PRIVATE & CORPORATE COLLECTIONS such as:
- Sasol's Head Office in Johannesburg
- The Trade and Investment KZN Head Office in Durban and at
- The Blue Parrot Advertising Agency in Johannesburg
Nicky is currently pursuing a BA Degree in Culture and Arts with UNISA via correspondence.
