Not only a pleasant place to paint...
They are a much enjoyed city retreat full of trees and plants where the city folk come to relax The gardens are regularly used for Musical Moments, anything from Just Ginger to the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and on these occasions you will find people sitting having their picnics while listening to the music A real bonus if your painting holiday coincides with a performance Most gardens have a small restaurant so you can have a coffee or meal al fresco Durban and Pietermaritzberg both have lovely botanical gardens and a Japanese Garden that's well worth a visit Back to the Top

What Art and Life in Africa Holiday would be complete without a bit of fun on the BEACHES and BOATS We even have sculpture on the beach!..A boat trip is the best way to see dolphins in the wild, and in season whales too, and your holiday would be incomplete without a trip to Ushaka Marine World a definite must do with its miles of aquariums and right next door you can have great fun at the Wet & WildThere are many BIRD PARKS in KZN from Small sanctuaries to more commercial parks like Umgeni River Bird Park in Durban, with its fantastic, daily falcon displays and further south the popular Uvongo Bird Park. Several of these parks have some of the rarer breeds like the Blue Swallow, and in the Raffia Palms around Kosi Bay, the Palmnut Vulture OK, How brave are you? How about a visit to a CROCODILE PARK then not only can you see crocs up close but if you’re game you can actually taste crocodile steak because there is often a restaurant on the premises where the “biter gets bit!” You’ll find several Croc Parks from Scottburgh to Richards Bay and St Lucia. SNAKE PARKS - See what you might encounter in the bush.Well you probably won’t actually see them in the bush as snakes usually have more sense than to take on humans and push off quickly
Pure Venom in Uvongo and the Fitzsimmons in Durban both have good collections and informative guides Of course there is the Big 5 to see and the best way is with a guide to take youon safari This is where Art and life in Africa really become exciting because you can sit a sketch away while the animals are no more than a few metres away. On a guided Safari there is always the comfort of having a knowledgeable armed ranger with you just in case. Usually, it's just his knowledge we use but it's comforting as well.In KZN THE ARCHITECTUREis as diverse as its population In the rural areas and the cultural villages you can see architecture that hasn’t changed for centuries and continues to be central to people’s traditional lives you may even choose to stay over in a cultural village such as Shakaland. Art and life in Africa are one and the same in Durban as the city is particularly well known for its ART DECO ARCHITECTUREfound in Musgrave and Morningside. A very enjoyable half day can be spent on an Architectural Tour of Durban.
It's got to be the coolest way to see these beautiful buildings
